Why Open Source?
Open Source Is Good for Business
Bold statement, isn't it?
We, at GDL-Web, believe so. That's why we stake our business, and yours, on it.
"Open source is a development method for software that harnesses the power of distributed peer review and transparency of process. The promise of open source is better quality, higher reliability, more flexibility, lower cost, and an end to predatory vendor lock-in." --http://www.opensource.org/
We have been working with a number of open source software over the years, each for their own reasons, strenghts and weaknesses. XOOPS, ImpressCMS, Joomla!, Wordpress, Zen-Cart, Magenta, Drupal, Ubercart. So why do we put so much trust in Open Source Software?
Security & Flexibility
The community at work
When you have thousands of users scrutinizing the code, it is quite probable that any security flaws will be detected and quickly fixed. Can we say the same for closed software where only the handful of developers actually have seen the code? And with thousands of users, it is quite probable someone needed a feature you also need and has built it in for us.
Cost
Low cost solution
The open source software method has proven to be an economically viable solution. The software is available at no cost, without the high price of acquisition for software and support costs, the investment required for your project can be funneled directly to your needs.
